Bavette's Bar & Boeuf: Delightful Steaks and Seafood in an Intimate Setting

Bavette’s is one of those rare spots that nails atmosphere, service, and food all at once. The moment you walk in, the dim lighting, jazz, and vintage speakeasy vibe set the tone — it feels like stepping into a different era in the best way. The steaks are phenomenal: rich, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor without needing anything extra. Every side feels intentional, every cocktail is crafted with care, and the whole experience has this effortless elegance that makes the night feel special. Service is smooth, attentive, and genuinely warm, which just elevates everything even more. Whether you’re celebrating something big or just treating yourself, Bavette’s delivers a memorable meal from start to finish. If you want a steakhouse that goes beyond “just a steakhouse,” this is the place.

There's a reason why this place is so popular. While a lot of popular places are overhyped, Bavette's lived up to it's expectations! The vibe is warm and cozy but also upscale. Service was friendly and attentive, drinks were delicious, and the food was top tier as expected. The beef tartare and the dry-aged ribeye are perfect and must-haves. Thanks for a great night and the complementary dessert for our celebration!

We came here for our anniversary and honestly it was such a good choice. The vibe is really nice, lights are pretty dim and cozy, super good for date night. We ordered the bone-in ribeye and it was sooo good. Very tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Cooked perfectly. One of the better steaks I’ve had for sure. Dessert ice cream was also really good, not too sweet, just perfect to end the night. Overall we had a great time and would definitely come back again.

From the warm lighting, cozy ambiance to the the amount of care in presentation, taste, and balance in each dish here, this restaurant continues to be one of my favorite in all of Chicago. While you won’t go wrong with any dish on the menu, some of my favorites include the baked goat cheese, the smoked salmon caesar salad, and the fried (boneless) chicken. One thing that doesn’t nearly get enough attention on the menu is the burger. It’s truly exquisite. I recommend splitting it into halves or quarters to share, because it’s so rich but so delicious.

Great food and experience! My husband I came here for our wedding anniversary a they did not disappoint! I got the skirt steak that came with fries. My husband got the branzino. And we both shared the mad & cheese and Brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious. We literally cleaned every plate. Highly recommend and will be back!

We were able to visit Bavette’s as someone had gifted us a gift card and we were celebrating the 50th birthday of a dear friend. We chose to split their viral cheeseburger as an appetizer which was a wise choice. It was delicious, but quite rich. As we were also sharing several side dishes, my spouse and I decided to split the bone in filet mignon. That filet is one of the best I’ve ever had! I’m not sure how I missed pictures of the side dishes, but everybody enjoyed the mac & cheese and the potatoes. While the carrot cake was my favorite dessert, the apple pie with caramel, while pricey, was delicious

Amazing atmosphere for dinner. The food was great. Highly recommend getting the sourdough bread for an appetizer. We both go steaks that were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were fantastic. If you can get a reservation it’s well worth it. We will be back!

Out thanksgiving dinner visit to Bavette’s could not have been better. On our arrival the hostesses were polite and gracious. Offered to take our coats and brought us to our table right away. This really set the tone for the evening. The restaurant is warm and cozy and lets you know you are some place special. We ate downstairs in the parlor. It’s a bit quieter down there and was perfect for our party of 4. The server was knowledgeable and gave us some great recommendations on what steak to order. We ordered a lot to share and try. My favorites of the evening were the shrimp scampi , steak tartare and the creamed spinach. To me the absolute DO NOT MISS was the burger with bacon and egg. One of the best dishes I’ve ever had and DEFINITELY the best burger ever.
